Basically I just finally received my what I thought was going to be regular windows 7 installation discs from dell but i received dell reinstallation DVD windows 7 home premium sp1 64-bit the software is already installed on your computer. use this dvd only to reinstall the operating system on a Dell pc. for distribution only with a New Dell pc.

(I do have the authentic windows 7 serial key on the back of my lap top)
Just ordered all my new parts of new rig every thing but a SSD+ OS because i salvaged both things from my laptop that is beyond dead at this point in time. basically i'm just wondering if i'll be able to do a fresh install with these discs once i reformat this drive when I get my machine up and running or am I just going to have to get windows 7 by other means... also naybe if I were to burn a image of a normal windows 7 install could I use my serial key and it will work? really confused . help me please

Right. An OEM installation from a laptop won't work on a new desktop.

Negative I bought the laptop directly from dell and had them mail me the cd's last week. if the cd key is locked to the mobo i'm screwed either way. just wanted to reuse the same SSD/OS from my lap top in my new custom rig.

Indeed, sorry for my foolishness i fully understand how this OEM works now when I called dell up they did not make it very clear at all I thought i thoroughly told them I was wanting to install my OS onto my new machine and they still sent me the disks without warning me or saying anything about it, Heh customer service just isn't what it used to be. i'm currently pulling my hair out because of the fact I know have to order a new windows 7 license on top of all the parts I just ordered. it's just never that easy is it. thanks for clearing that up.
