Will PCI-E 2.0 x16 GPU work on PCI-E x16 slot???

Wanna buy a gpu for my system, my motherboard supports "PCI-E x16" but everywhere in market graphic cards are specified by "PCI-E 2.0 x16". I am confused will PCI-E 2.0 x16 gpu work on my motherboards's PCI-E x16 slot or not??

The graphics card will work fine, but will have lower bandwidth CPU <-> GPU so you might get slightly lower fps in games etc.

PCIe x16 pretty much has the same bandwidth as PCIe 2.0 x8.
