please help me. a few days ago i did standard updates on shut down, nothing scary there but next day my sound had gone. tried to enable it in device manager but there are yellow exclamation points on everything to do with sound. i have tried reinstalling the audio and tried the bios thingy there is nothing i can do. i even tried rebooting to an earlier date but that failed too. every time i try to download something that might help i just get a load of unwanted downloads that keep asking me for money, so i have to uninstall everything again. this is driving me mad and is probably something so simple but i just dont know what it is. thanks a bunch microsoft for your bloody updates, you have now totally p+++++ me off, keep your updates in the future if you are just gooing to balls my computer up. please someone help me, please. Go to your PC or laptop manufacturer's website and get the audio drivers from them, they are completely free.

Regarding Windows Automatic Updates, I always make it a policy to disable that feature precisely because of the problems they frequently cause to a previously faultless system. I may visit the Windows Update website occasionally if I need a specific patch or update, but no more than that. I may be missing quite a few Microsoft security patches and fixes, but it's never done my PC any harm.

Of course, that kind of policy demands that you have reliable and strong online security software in place, which I've always had.
