Hi, My names Bobby and this is my first build. I'm 22yo and have no technical training whatsoever but I've used and messed with computers for a long time.. How long I'm not sure I remember our first windows 95 computer and our good old dial up modem that soon followed.

anyways. . . .

I Mainly watch videos and research things that interest me. I've always wanted to be able to play "real" games. I like a little bit of everything when it comes to gaming. I'm not into serious Pvp but I do like mmorpgs more co-op based.

I'm not picky about having the best of the best visuals as long as it runs smoothly I don't care much about high detail.

Ok so what I have so far.

case - CM scout 2 advanced. - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119263

PSU - Corsair cx750Modular - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139051

Hard drives

SSD - 128 gb Samsung 840 pro series - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147192

HDD - Western Digital 1tb Black 7200 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533

optical - asus dvd/burner drive - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

OS - Windows 7 64 bit home premium - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986

so those are the things I have already purchased and installed (well minus the OS)

now here is where it gets serious. I have done hours of reading reviews and checking out some benchmarks and I really am liking MSI I know there have been some QC issues in the past but they seem to be doing pretty well.

I plan to run the Intel Haswell so the rest is as follows.

CPU - i5-4670K (Will I actually over clock it? Probably so but maybe not right away and not a lot) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899

CPU Cooler - CM Hyper 212 EVO - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

Thermal paste - NO clue at the moment I've not looked into it a whole lot.

MOBO - MSI GD65 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130692

GPU - MSI GTX 760 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127745

RAM - 2 4gb sticks (for now I'd probably upgrade with 2 more sticks) of G.Skill sniper series (I'm not very well knowledgeable in this I just see it has decent ratings and matches the other components I put serious research into) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460

I'll keep my current keyboard and Mouse I need to figure out a monitor.. Or can I just hook it up to my nearby 42" Vizio hdtv??

Ok I "think" I have pretty much everything covered

For your thermal compound, I always use Artic Silver 5 , would strongly suggest a different mobo, neither I nor the builders I know will build on MSI due to their poor QC, at that price point I'd look at Asus, they seem to have the best handle on the Z87/Haswell rigs, I'd look first at the Maximus VI Hero (that was my pick, Love it) or for a little less the Gryphon... The rest looks good ;)

I'll give it some serious thought I do read a lot of good things about asus. and being around the same price would these be better than the hero?

pro - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131979

sabertooth - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131976

would anyone recommend a different type of ram? I know I want to go ahead and have 16 or 32 gig. (mainly just because I can.. but starting with just 2 sticks for now to get it going and then having room to upgrade)

I'm assuming that evo 212 will be more than enough since I never "plan" to really OC.

annnd if Msi is so bad should I go with the asus gtx 760 gpu instead? also..would I even NEED a better gpu? I'll only ever run a single monitor which I have not picked out.. but would like to connect to my 42" hdtv during gaming if possible?? (I know it's possible but I have no clue if there are any resolution/gpu issues ??)

The Pro is right there with the Hero, the Sabertooth is also very good, after about 20 Haswell builds, including both of those other Asus boards, I feel the Hero is the best as far as OCing, dealing with DRAM, GPUs, et al....I use mine almost daily to test other components for client builds, upgrades and repairs. On the DRAM the Snipers have been a long time fav of mine, though the last year or so they have dropped to my number two choice behind the GSkill Tridents, and to be honest going with 16GB now, if the budget permits would be a good move....on the GPU, again I like Asus, love their CU pipe cooling design, works well and their GPUs are very open to OCing....

well I probably wont ever actually OC it. and if I do it will be very very minimal. It's more of just wanting the option so the extra OC features won't matter much to me.

I'm thinking of just going with this ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231611

and I'm about to order ram the 212 evo and thermo compound. on pay day I'll order my processor (i5 haswell)

Mobo will follow. Gpu will be in a few weeks since I just want to focus on getting a functioning computer back up and running.

I may order a monitor next week but I'm still a bit clueless
I'm still not 100% sold on the hero but I'm planning to read more on it tonight.

Well to be honest I was hoping more people would chime in but after taking what you said into consideration and rading up more on it and seeing other countless threads with you saying the same thing (haha) I did finally order the hero.

I ended up picking only 8gb (2x4gb) of the sniper series for the time being. I will upgrade to 2 more of them when/if needed I just want to get it up and running.

I also grabbed the 212 evo, the artic silver thermal paste, and haswell i5 4670k

I just need to get it in the mail so I can finish my install.. now I just need the graphics card and new monitor and I'll be happy for at least a week. Thanks again for the help
