hello first and foremost i am not a hardcore video editor and i do not do any 3d graphic editing or whatever that's called, only a few transitions here and there and a bit of colorgrading and maybe the occasional mild animation for intros but that's about it. oh, and i edit h264 format videos.

anyway, my planned specs are as follows:

cpu: amd a10 5800k
mobo: msi fm2 a85xma e35
ram: gskill ripjaws ddr3 1600 2x4gb (will add more ram later on)
storage: ocz or crucial m4 ssd (not sure which one to get yet) for the OS and a few applications, 1tb wd hdd black for storage, 500gb wd hdd (might get just the blue one for this third storage device) for video output
gpu: inno3d gtx 550 ti 192bit ddr5
case: coolermaster elite 120 or the silverstone sg07
psu: not quite sure yet which one to get if i go the coolermaster case route

please let me know what you guys think

the 2600k will be a better buy and regards to a motherboard you can purchase one without overclocking features such as a h77 board and it will still work fine but you wont be able to...

it would work but i think it will be worth spending the extra money and going with a i5 processor, if thats not and option go for a fx6100 or something along those lines. if you do get the FX6100 then you will need to get a new motherboard that is socket AM3+

i could but i really love compact cases and i dont think there are any am3+ motherboards that would fit compact cases. believe me i would've went with a amd fx 8320 if there were only am3+ mini itx boards.

i found a used i5 3570k online which still has shop warranty for $200 (it is roughly $250 where im from brand new). do you think i would be better off with that and a micro atx/mini itx board? or should i just go with an am3 cpu like the phenom ii x6 and an am3 micro atx board?

a 3570k would be a good buy in my opinion because in benchmarks its always equal to a 8350 and then once you get a 3570k you can get a mini-itx board easily so i think you should go with the 3570k!

yes but it will be more expensive though since i will need to get the z77 boards to OC the i5 but, i know i've already posted another thread about this, what if i put the i5 on a mobo that doesn't have OC features? what will happen then? and since the i5 i will buy is used it mostly likely must've already been OC'd. thoughts?

edit:
i found a used i7 2600k btw for the same price as the used i5 3570k. i would go for it but it doesn't have HSF which means i would have to spend more for cooling. what do you think? should i go for it regardless?

the 2600k will be a better buy and regards to a motherboard you can purchase one without overclocking features such as a h77 board and it will still work fine but you wont be able to overclock. and you said about it may have been overclocked before, that would not matter as once you put it in your system it should be back at default clock as the previous persons motherboard would have saved that information. also if you would like to overclock definitely go for the 2600k as sandy bridge chips run cooler. all in all i think you should go for the 2600k as it has hyperthreading which will make the video rendering alot quicker that the i5. also the sandy bridge motherboards would be cheaper aswell. i imaging you live in the US so visit this newegg link for a decently priced mobo

its a decent mobo and for the cooler go for the

this cpu cooler will keep you cpu very cool at stock clock speed and if you want to overclock in the future the motherboard has the features and that cooler can easily handle a 4.0GHz overclock making Video Rendering faster

hope this helps!
