So i have been having some problems with my internet connection lately on my homebuilt PC, and its driving my crazy.

When i plug in an Ethernet cable it works fine.. But then at random intervals i will lose my connection. I get a big red cross down in the taskbar, and it looks like my network card turns off, or restarts. Because it only takes 4-5 seconds for my connection to be up again. So for the first few weeks of my PC i had an external network card connected to my MOBO so i could use wifi since i didnt have lan connection. Then i removed the card and deleted its drivers, but even after that the problem persists.

It seems to be the worst when im joining a lobby or playing a game. Im 100% sure that the network is not to blame because my roomate is using the same switch as i am and he doesnt have these problems. I suspect that its the integrated network card that is to blame since it gives me the red cross in the taskbar, and that my roomate doesnt have these problems.

I have the MSI z87-g43 motherboard.
I live at a college so we only have a hole in the wall where we connect our switch and then our computers to the switch.

I really hope someone can help, its driving my crazy!

Do you have the latest driver for your ethernet? Have you tried a different cable? Have seen a number of ethernet port failures between the the $# (yours) and the both the 45 and 65s, the poor QC at MSI is one of the big reasons I won't build on their mobos, if the cable or drivers don't work, might pick up a plug in PCI card or just stick w/ wireless

I havent tried using another Ethernet cable. I might try that as soon as i come home. If that doesnt work i think i will follow your advice and just buy an external PCI card and plug it in there. Thanks for your response!

Okay so i think i solved it now. I had apparently downloaded drivers for the z87-g45 instead of z87-g43 which is the one i had. And i also changed the ethernet cable and that seems to hav fixed the problem. Thanks for your help!
