Final prices, tax/MIR all in:
Asus 7970 non-ghz $300
MSI GTX 760 gaming TF $290
Asus R9 280x DC2T ~$360 (pre-order only)

Which would you recommend? I don't have a hard budget, performance/price is important. And noise (if there's a big difference?). And what about if the 280x was $40-$50 more?

I bought the 760 already but now looking at 7970 prices, I'm wondering whether to return it (which I need to do by tomorrow if so).

Thoughts:
- MSI 760 gaming is highest rated 760 for performance, temp, noise.
- Asus 7970 perf > msi 760, but much hotter and noisier, power draw.
- r9 280x > other two, but costs more and I was hoping <$300 for gpu.
- r9 280x = 7970 IF 7970 can OC OK (non-ghz ver), but 280x is much cooler and quieter.
- I do care about temps (for OC?) and noise, otherwise 7970 seems fine. $50 difference between 7970 and 280x is big, but it is a bit better in all three categories (perf, temp, noise)... what are the chances it'll see a sale in next few weeks?

I have a 550W psu, OK for 760, but not sure about 7970 and r9 280x.

Thanks!!

If I were you, I'd wait for the r9 280x. The 7970 GHZ edition is the one faster than the r9 280x. Yes you can OC the 7970 non GHz ed to reach the speeds of 280x, buttttt you can also OC the 280x further. There's a big chance that next week, you'll see that $360 price tag will go down.

And yes, your 550w psu is enough for all the cards of your choice (only one choice of course :D )

I wish I could pick two solutions because rolli59 answered a lot and it really took that post to decide too. I did decide to go with r9 280x though. They are in stock now and I see 350 already from a MIR.. just a bit less now and I'd be happy...! Thanks all.
