1. What is your budget?
Somewhere around 600 Canadian dollars tops.
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
14 to 15.6 inches
3. What screen resolution do you want?
I don't really care
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
It would be my only computer hence the average screen size. But I want to be able to slip in my backpack if needed. I've had a 17inch Dell for 6+ years now, it's a pain to move around.
5. How much battery life do you need?
Not one of my main criteria. I've done without batteries for a while. 4+ hours would be good.
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I do play very occasionnaly and casually. Some League of Legends, FIFA, and the old Warcraft III I cant get away from. Low to medium settings are fine.
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Mainly internet browsing, movie watching, light video editing, office work.
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
Not a main criteria again. I have an external Hard Drive.
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
bestbuy.ca
futureshop.ca
newegg.ca
staples.ca
The two first ones have the same stuff essentially. The variety is bad. I am open to any other reliable online source to shop. Yes...I am in Canada. And in Quebec, which has prevented me from getting some all english refurbished laptops, because of French language laws here. They would ship it in Qc.
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
Years. 3-4-5+? Like my previous one. Reliability, durability are big criterias. Buildwise and also hardwarewise.
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
DVD Rom writer ideally. Though I am arguing with my roommate who is making me reconsider the use of an optical drive.
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
Ideally. Asus or Lenovo, I've had good feedbacks from friends and family and seem reliable. I am considering Toshiba as well. A friend of mine has had one of these tanks for years no formatting ever and is doing fine.
Neutral towards Dell. Mine served me well, but they don't seen as good anymore.
Bad prejudice about Acer and Hp when it comes to their lastability and toughness, although I see them recommended. Only hearsay and talks with friends, but it stays...
13. What country do you live in?
Answered above.
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I think I've said it all. I'm on a tight budget and I know I can't have it all. My main struggle has been to decide whether to get an Intel proc. i5 for instance with integrated graphics or say an AMD A8 with a dedicated graphic card. If only hardware didnt become obsolete that quick... I hope you can all help me pick a computer that will serve me well... and for long hopefully, thank you.
