Hi first post and I have been looking everywhere and can not seem to fix my problem.

setup:
I have a asus P8z67-v lx motherboard
500 gb WD HHD
atapi disc drive
and I just bought a new Toshiba Q-series 128gb SSD.

essentially I want to have my ssd be primary with HHD as backup (pretty standard). The problem I am getting is the:
"Reboot and select proper drive" error when i unplugg my HHD and try to boot with the win7 install disc to set up the new ssd. I have used the UEFI Bios to set boot options to atapi optical drive first then run the SSD. Also, I have already I set the bios to run AHCI.

When I plug my HHD back in, it boots normally and it recognizes the win 7 disc in the D drive which can be ran normally and it recognized the SSD in the E drive with nothing on it.

Thanks for the help!

I've seen this issue before with other ssd's that I have purchased. In the end, it ended up being a faulty drive. However you can try this. Boot into Windows normally. Connect the ssd via a usb connection or plug directly into your computer before powering on. right click on computer and choose manage. From there you can go into disk management and initialize the drive and setup it up. Try to install to that drive now. If you still have problems with windows finding it, replace the drive. A great drive to purchase is Plextor and OCZ. I highly recommend the Plextor M5Pro 256Gb. Very fast drive.

there few setting in asus bios that need to be changed. on the main bios page make sure the cd-rom does not say efi. the asus bios will make two devices efi and non efi. in the advance tab under boot make sure cd-rom is number one and under hard drive boot order set the ssd as number one and cd-rom if you have two make sure the right drive it number one. if your having issues with your cd-rom use the microsoft iso to usb tool make a bootable usb device.
