New motherboard and CPU with no display. Please help!

So I ended up buying an FX-8320 CPU along with a ASROCK 990FX-Extreme3 motherboard a few days ago. So far I have made little to no progress in getting my system working... I installed everything last night, with only one small complication - the CPU heatsink (stock) wouldn't fit right away, so I had to apply a good amount of force, like a really good amount, to get it on there. Other than that everything went well. Then I tried to turn in on annnnnnnd blank screen. So I immediately went back inside to see what the problem was. Everything was plugged in, and everything appeared to be fine. After not being able to diagnose the problem I looked online to see some troubleshooting ideas. I first tried to change out the CPU to my old FX-4100, with the same results. Then I tried to take out the GPU and move the RAM around, which gave me 5 short beeps, and after I looked that up it appears that it was just because of the GPU not being plugged in. So that ruled out the RAM. I just got off the phone with Newegg and they said they could offer me an advanced return of my MoBo where they send me a new one, and I send them back my (presumably broken) one.... Sigh... Would anyone have any suggestions on what to do? This is very frustrating as this is my first attempt at installing a CPU or a MoBo. Thank you for any replies.

Other specs:
GPU: Radeon 7850 2GB
PSU: Corsair 750W
RAM: Unknown company with "4GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM" (which may be the problem as I wasn't able to find anything similar to this on the memory support list)

Depending where the pins are placed on the bottom of the motherboard, some boards short out where others won't. They don't come with the motherboard but they generaly do come with the case. To test and see if it is the problem unscrew the motherboard and use something non conductive to elevate the board off the case then try booting in. Again only use something very small that doesn't conduct electricity. Plastic or rubber.

Well, the thing with that is my case never came with any nor did my motherboard. And my previous MoBo didn't ever have a problem without them. So no, no stand-offs.

Hey I don't know if you'll get this tonight, but my plans have changed for the night and I'm able to access my computer. Would you want me to elevate it on something rubber outside or inside the case?

Outside the case is preferable, this is called a bench test btw. Just not in contact with anything that's steel or metal or conducts electricity. In a very safe comfy spot for it

Woah... That actually worked! Thank you so much! Because I hard to restart so many times Windows is going through a restore right now, but thank you very much! I'll be installing the parts into my case momentarily.

No problem, Dont forget to select the best solution so that others can find this fix too. I went through a nightmare before i found that issue and couldnt find any posts to help me out. Hope all goes well. You can buy motherboard standoffs in your local hardware store or in any computer place generaly.

I absolutely will, and thanks again. Oh quick question, are the standoffs really necessary? I'm looking throw past posts and it seems to be on the fence. Would it be okay to leave my MoBo with everything in it on some cardboard or the anti-static bag overnight so I can get some tomorrow if need be?

Yeah that will be fine as long as the metal contacts on the bottom of the board arent touching any sort of steel. Cardboard would work and as long as the bag doesnt melt under warm temps then yeah. No harm in using an alternative until you get them.
