The GMA 3100 should be fine for watching 1080p video... at least that's what my Google search tells me...

However, for playing games especially at 1080p you want something more powerful than the Radeon HD 5450. Assuming you have a decent 300w power supply, I recommend a Radeon HD 7750. It does not use much power (47w peak at stock speed) and it is actually pretty powerful all things considered. It is as powerful as the older Radeon HD 5770 and it also consumes about 45% less power than the HD 5770 which makes it a great choice for a 300w PSU.

The issue however is your case if you have a "standard size" case then you can buy the following Radeon HD 7750 for $70 after a $30 rebate. However, I personally prefer the Radeon HD 7750 in the...

For videos, either will be fine. The discrete card, a bit better. But, You won't be able to game with either graphic solution at 1080p. Depending on your PSU make/model, you would have to have at least an HD 7750. Even then, you'd be gaming with reduced settings.

If you game on a 1080p display at 720p, the display won't be as sharp as on a native 720p display. It's not like pixels on an old CRT display. LCD monitors are only distinct at their native resolution. But yes, games that are not too demanding will be playable at higher settings at 720p with an HD 7750 and your C2D. If you have at least a 300W decent quality PSU, I'd recommend the HD 7750*. That is about the most demanding card a small PSU can handle.

*There is also one GTX 650 that would be acceptable; the GTX650-E-1GD5: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GDDR5-Memory-Graphics-GTX650-E-1GD5/dp/B00AF3HODI It is the only GTX 650 I know of that doesn't require a 6 pin aux power cable. It and its 2GB sibling.

However, I personally prefer the Radeon HD 7750 in the second link for $80 after a $20 rebate because the hot air is exhausted out of the case rather than simply dumped inside the case.

However, if you have a "low profile" case which cannot fit a standard height card (5.5 inches I think), then you will need a low profile version of the Radeon HD 7750 for $100 after a $10 rebate.

actually guys this PC isn't for any gaming purpose , n I don't game that much, my current monitor at 1600*1200 makes aero a lil stutterish , n I thought that a gpu might speed up my PC overall, gaming is really casual 720p Low settings I don't mind em , I have laptop hp g6 2005ax a8 4500m 7670m+7640g n I can game at medium on that , at 60fps so it's just for upgrading the dinosaur
