SSD Tweaks: Which are MUST DO?

Hi guys, I see there are lots of articles on the SSD tweaks, and frankly I am confused.

I am not trying to squeeze every last ounce of performance out of my SSD, but I just want to get the necessity taken care of.

I used this article a couple years ago when I had my first SSD, but it's dated 2010. Is this still update to date?

http://www.computing.net/howtos/show/solid-state-drive-ssd-tweaks-for-windows-7/552.html

My SSD is a Toshiba Q Series 128GB Sata III. I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. It is a desktop.

Thanks much!

Windows 7 doesn't need to be tweaked at all. It's not SSD aware but the drivers will take care of everything.

Windows 8 is fully SSD aware and will automatically optimize itself when installed on an SSD.

So far I've done the following:

1) SATA Controller set to AHCI Mode
2) Enable TRIM
3) Disable Drive Defragmentation
4) Disable Prefetch and Superfetch
5) Disable Drive Indexing
6) Disable System Restore

The below tweaks, I am confused as I am seeing different opinions from different articles. What are your thoughts guys?

Drive Compression – Disable or Enable?
Pagefile – Disable or Enable?
Hibernation – Disable or Enable?
Windows Write-Cache Buffer Flusing – Disable or Enable?
Disable Windows Search and Superfetch – Disable or Enable?
ClearPageFileAtShutdown and LargeSystemCache - Disable or Enable?
Adjusting the Power Settings – Yes or NO?

Compression - Disable
Pagefile - reduce to a minimum level. I use 1024MB min and max. Some applications choke with no pagefile
Hibernation - Disable

Disable Drive Compression (unnecessary, increases load on CPU, and SSDs compress data on their own);
Disable or Enable pagefile depending on current RAM. 8GB or more should be enough to be able to disable pagefiles;
Disable Hibernation unless you use it, to save space;
Disable the Windows Write-Cache Buffer Flushing because nowadays it offers almost no performance boost, and can cause data loss in power loss;
Disable Windows Search and Superfetch because it causes unnecessary indexing, the drive is fast enough to search without issues;
Dunno about ClearPageFileAtShutdown and LargeSystemCache;
Adjust power settings to not allow the SSD to sleep (no advantages since it uses almost no power, only slows down if it sleeps);

Ok, so here's what's I've done so far with all your responses. Thanks

1) SATA Controller set to AHCI Mode
2) Enable TRIM
3) Disable Drive Defragmentation
4) Disable Prefetch and Superfetch
5) Disable Drive Indexing
6) Disable System Restore
7) Disable Drive Compression
8) Disable Hibernation
9) Disable Windows Write-Cache Buffer Flushing
10) Disable Windows Search and Superfetch

Pagefile – Disable or Enable? Since I have only 4GB of RAM, I'll leave this feature enable?

ClearPageFileAtShutdown and LargeSystemCache - Disable or Enable?
Adjusting the Power Settings – Yes or NO? Should I adjust power setting so that the SSD NEVER goes to sleep?

Pagefile - reduce to a small size. 1GB or so.
Power setting - adjust as needed. But 'sleep' is probably not necessary.

Right. With an HDD, sleep powers down the drive to conserve energy. An unused SSD consumes little or no power anyway, so sleep is not really needed.

Also found this guide which seems pretty complete and incredibly helpful for new SSD users.

http://www.thessdreview.com/ssd-guides/optimization-guides/the-ssd-optimization-guide-ultimate-windows-8-edition/

It's for both Windows 8 and 7 (some might not apply to 7).
