pc wont start when using ide to sata dvd drive

hi guys i have a problem i brought a IDE to SATA / SATA to IDE Bidirectional Adapter since i got a ide dvd drive and wanted to make it work on my sata mb
but when i start the computer it doesnt get past windows loading screen it hangs then i removed it .den it worked again

Those things are a pain. I bought one that looked like this and could not get it to work with my HP intel chipsets.

Then later I got one that looked like this and it worked fine.
