Sound card to go with Gaming computer and ATH M50 head phones?

So I put together a computer a few months ago, and i'm very happy with it. I use it for gaming, mostly. I want to get a pair of headphones, and like probablly most people on this site, I'm not the kind of guy that just goes out and buys whatever looks cool, I research it first.

I want a pair of ATH M50's, I have an ASROCK Z77 Extreme 6 with a Realtek Audio codec, and I was wondering how much I would have to spend on a sound card to get a significant boost in music or in game audio for these (relatively) high level headphones.

I use ATH AD700's and paired them up with the inexpensive Asus Xonar DG because it had an amp. I also installed the UNi Xonar drivers in place of the official drivers since I had some issues with their software.

It's not an expensive option so I took the dive and can't say I regret it. I always figured I could always upgrade to an external DAC + Amp combo but I haven't felt the need to.
