What do you all think would be the best upgrade for me? I have two GTX 460s in SLI but I really want to move to a single card because I seem to always have issues running in SLI and my cards are starting to get dated.

I'm open to AMD or Nvidia, just looking for the best value for the money.

What's the point of getting the 7970 when the 280x performs better for the same price? Go with the 280x!

I was leaning toward the 280x haha. Thankfully that can follow me to a new mobo when I upgrade (I'm on a Core i5-760 with a ASRock p55 extreme4 mobo)

I am assuming that even though the card is PCIe 3.0 they will still perform better than my GTX460s even if it has to scale down to 2.0. Am I right in this assumption?

Will you be upgrading to a new CPU?

Yes, the PCIe 2.0 slot would work fine and the card will perform great on it, but if it were on a PCIe 3.0 you would see no big difference in frames. :)  http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Ivy_Bridge_PCI...

The CPU is probably coming later...I have to do this a bit at a time for monetary reasons. And when I switch CPUs, I will have to buy a new mobo and probably RAM lol.

Unless I'm looking at it wrong, the video card is probably the best first step, then going for the rest of it later. Feel free to tell me if you disagree :p

I think it's a good idea as a first upgrade if you're looking to game! :)

Everything looks good!
