Hi,
I have a new computer since yesterday. But the wifi signal is very poor. The pci adapter is between the case and the wall. Four of the five bars are filled, but when i run a test with speedtest.net, i can't get higher than 3Mbps download, but it must be around 40Mbps (the laptop does hit 40Mpbs). There's nothing wrong with the upload. The adapter was pretty cheap. Should i buy a usb adapter (will not be plugged in nearby a wall) or is there a way to improve wifi signal?
Pci adapter: Icidu ni-707544

Pls help me,
thanks in advance

I believe the drivers may be the cause, or at least a contributing factor. If you can still return the unit, I would recommend that. A USB antenna should be fine. Though if your computer if flush against a wall, I would look for a detachable USB antenna. Or if you go the PCI route again, look into something like this. Basically an antenna extender so you can place it in a spot where it will get better reception.

Are you able to connect the new computer directly to the router or the modem? This would be helpful to see if it is infact the adapter that is causing the slower speeds. The fact your upload remains constant for the new computer and the laptop is a little odd though. If there was a degraded connection, normally the upload would be proportionally slower to the download.

How many other computers are on your network? How far apart and how recent were the speedtests run? Did you install the necessary drivers for the PCI adapter? Icidu's website is lacking in support for their devices, but I was going to check if perhaps a newer firmware release was available. But this should be enough to get us going. Good luck & look forward to hearing back - Sub

**edit** Just noticed you mentioned the signal is very poor, but four of the five bars are filled? Four bars would indicate a strong connection to the network, can you please double check this as well.\**edit**

Yes, I am able to connect the computer directly to the router, i did this yesterday and hit 40Mbps.

This is the only computer on the network. I ran the speedtests again a minute ago and the pc hit 12,53Mbps and the laptop hit 38,98Mbps. Unfortunaltey, i couldn't install drivers because the dvd which came with the adapter doesn't support windows 8.

Yes it's very odd, but four of the five bars are filled. Btw, the pci adapter can be returned within 1,5 week.

Thanks for answering :)
