I'm not going to assume I know what this is about, but it sounds like you were being told that you have a CPU that doesn't fit the socket on your motherboard, so you have the "wrong socket."
It's kind of like trying to use a phone's USB cord with an iPhone -- they may both be USB, but they don't fit the same devices.
