Hi guys,

I purchased an ASUS DRW 24B5ST a few weeks ago and it worked like a champ. A few days ago I attempted to burn a CD but the burn failed. Today I burned a DVD and it burned properly but when it came to burning a CD ( I am using nero 9) the software gave errors like 'Reset occurred' 'could not perform fixation' 'invalid write state'. The burner is still under warranty. Is it the drive or the media that is causing this?

Thanks.

Possibly the media. It's by no means unusual for a particular make/model of burner to have problems writing to some media brands, especially the cheap, bargain-bucket type, so that's certainly worth investigating. Generally speaking, stick with quality brands like Sony or Verbatim. I use Verbatim media exclusively now, Sony before that. Both have been faultless on all computers I've used them on over the years, only changed to Verbatim because they make inkjet-printable one's, Sony doesn't.

Buying cheap optical media (and I'm not saying you did) is false economy if half of them end up as coasters.
