Boot from a floppy drive? As in 1.44MB?

There are a couple of Linux distros that will do that.
Go here, and do a find on "floppy"

From the above linked site:
"Coyote Linux is a single floppy distribution of Linux that is derived from the Linux Router Project (LRP)."

"FREESCO (FREE ciSCO) is a free Linux-based distribution that will fit on a floppy. It’s optimized to be used as a router."

"tomsrtbt is Tom’s bootable linux-based distribution that will fit on a floppy."

"muLinux is a full-configurable, minimalistic, almost complete, application-centric tiny distribution of Linux (2.0.36 modular kernel) made in Italy. muLinux resides on a single 1722K floppy, but floppy add-ons are provided."

But beyond that....any reason it has to be from a floppy? Many, many tools are available to boot from a larger USB drive or CD.
Many current Linux distros will boot from a LiveCD.

Presumably you have a CD/DVD drive?

LinuxMint or Ubuntu, burn to a CD, boot.
If it comes up and runs, your system is fine to proceed on to the Windows install.

did not work i am afraid so i went back to windows disc
i am going to copy out in a short while what each screen says and does. manually if we do screen by screen then should be able to get this board runnin. i know it works as a mate had it from my build years ago. he gave me the discs then but had not got them now
