I built my new computer for the first time. It works, but my motherboard only came with two 6 GB SATA cords, and no 3 GB one(even though it said it would come with 3). I have a optical drive, a ssd, and a 1 terabit hard drive. I plugged in the optical and solid state drive, so I was not able to have the hard drive in. It works find, but after I booted up everything, I tried to switch the one in the optical drive to my hard drive. It did not work. The SSD one looks different than the one in the optical drive, does that mean that they are not interchangeable?

A SATA III cable will work on SATA I and II. But a SATA II or I cable might not be able to push the full 6Gbps. The cables them self are identical in wiring, connector and everything.

If this is a brand new Hard drive, and you don't see it in my computer then you want to right click on "Computer" Go to manage. Then click on Storage on the left and then disk management. Once you click here you will probably get a screen saying "New hard drive. Do you wish to initilize?" kinda screen. Then it will setup paritions and format it and you should see it now in my computer.
