If you take a standard USB-A MALE TO MALE cable with the transmit/receive pins/wires reversed, shouldn't you be able to communicate from pc to pc? Seems to me it's like reversing those pins on the old RS232 pc cable.

Unfortunately you can't do that and Don't try it please it could fry your cord or your sub ports. There needs to be a bridge chip in between the cord. Luckily they make these and I saw one on Amazon for 10 bucks. It was a Belkin. There are cheaper ones from China. They are called USB bridge cables.
