Well I just recently installed a brand new hardrive into this laptop it is a windows 8 laptop but when I try booting windows 8 setup from the flash drive I always get the same error :

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2.choose your language settings and then click "next."
3.click "repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc0000225

Info: the boot configuration data for your pc is missing or contains errors.

Also there is one more thing I have tried to install windows 8 from a DVD and it does boot up but when I go to install it it says the product key does not match. if I could get the USB to work I could put it on because i put a PID file in the USB to match the product key.

I had this issue on a Windows 7 PC a couple of months ago and got it fixed by simply Rebuilding the Boot Configuration Data... However, MBR can also be a cause which is why you may be seeing 0*0000225 .... So first try to RBCD or if it does not help, Restoring MBR should work out !!

Check this http://www.optimizemswindows.com/fix-boot-error-0xc0000225-in-windows-7/ however, it is for Windows 7... But you can try the same root (slightly different in Windows 8) to perform these actions !!
