problem with potential malware/virus

Hi,

Last night I made a stupid mistake and tried to watch a movie on a sketchy website and and got a pop up that immediately disappeared. I then noticed a performance problem and used Malwarebytes to look for any viruses. I got 4 "pup.optional" viruses or malware, I don't know what to call it.. I THINK I removed them. I then restarted my comp and still had the computer freeze and slow down afterwards. I then installed avast and performed a quick scan which took an hour to finish. It said it had found nothing. I then did a "reboot scan" which apparently had found some malware. I chose the remove all option and then deleted the avast software after the reboot because all it would do is lag and the quick scan would take ridiculously long. I now installed Advanced SystemCare and did a scan where it supposedly cleaned up and fixed registry errors, shortcut errors, junk files etc.. It said it had found no malware though. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do here. It seems like I may still have something in my comp but none of these scans are showing anything. I don't feel safe entering any private information/passwords at all atm. Sorry if I'm not mentioning crucial details, I'm usually pretty cautious and I haven't done a stupid like this in awhile, so I'm not sure exactly what info you guys need. I am using a toshiba laptop, i3, windows 7 64 bit. Thanks.

With the Kaspersky disk, it is its own OS. Nothing else will be running.

As far as back up, reinstall etc....
1. Copy all your critical data elsewhere.
2. Gather all the install disks and files for your applications
3. Gather whatever install keys, userids and passwords those need
4. Get the install disk and activation...

Ok, I guess I'll try the kapersky rescue disk first, see if it finds anything, then do as rgd1101 suggests. I assume that I can have Advanced System Care running while I use kaspersky rescue disk? I've read that antiviruses can interfere with each other. Also, I don't exactly know how to do what rgd said but I'm sure I can google it. If there is a specific article explaining those steps that would be great though.

Thanks for the help, USAFRet. I'll do all that and hopefully not mess up to much in the process ^_^
