Ok so I am currently running the AMD fx 4170 which is ok but lags whist recording and playing games, will upgrading to the I7 4770k make a large difference?
If I happen to upgrade will it be compatible with my other hardware?

Motherboard: asus m5a78l-m lx v2
Graphics card: Nvidia gtx 660 OC edition
RAM: 8GB 1333MHz DDR3
PSU: random 750W one.
Anything else you need to know?
Many thanks,
Jake!

You'll need a new motherboard.

Also, I wouldn't feel safe with a "random" power supply in my computer. That really is risky.

Awesome, thanks for the help! Could you suggest a motherboard that would work, kind of a noob on that side of things!
Also the PSU is decent, the ratings where good, just can't remember the name of it!

The Asus Z87-A is a nice deal. But there are plenty of options depending on your priorities and budget.
