New to Windows 8, is this NORMAL?

Hey guys so I recently finished my custom desktop build and since WIndows 7 is basically discontinued in retail I went ahead and bought Windows 8 Pro ( which says absolutely nothing on the box about it being only an upgrade, not an OS. I wasted $260 on it. ) Anyways, I installed it and I have tried to download Adobe aswell as Java so I can play games like Minecraft and, well, basically watch stuff since I CANT WITHOUT ADOBE! But whenever I download adobe it says connection failed after its been downloaded and when I try Java i get to the site, try the offline download button and it just takes me to a page where it says internet connection failed, even though my internet is working fine.

I have tried doing these with the windows defender turned off aswell as my avg off, no dice.

Please help me anyone :/

Ahh thank you, working on downloading the Java now. Still looking for help for Adobe anyone :D

SO i go to Adobe test page and a get a popup saying install missing plugins, i click the install, it takes me to the usual accept terms and etc, but after i install it suddenly says 'no plugins were installed' and its giving me a manual install option now.

Why is it doing this?
