I have a seperate video card from my i5's onboard video. I currently am using my video cards DVI output for my monitor. For reasons i dont want to get into, i need to use my motherboard's video output. Would the video still go through and be accelerated by my seperate GPU even if i use the motherboards output? or would it only be powered by the i5's onboard video? Thanks

HDMI should route the sound as well. Make sure all drivers are loaded, sometimes that can have an impact on performance. Occasionally you will get an odd GPU/ MB combo that will not transfer sound via HDMI. But it is rare.
