When turn on the power, I can hear the computer trying to start, but then it just gets quiet and screen stays blank. I tried to connect it to a separate monitor in case it was a video issue, but nothing. I tried the recovery disk that came with the computer, but still nothing. Blank screen. Not sure what to do with it!

Sounds like you might need a reputable repair shop, if your not under warranty. If you want to go it yourself, try replacing the hard drive and reloading windows.
