Alright so I'm building a PC for $1000 dollars primarily for gaming and I want to know if I should get a ssd or not. I already have a 1tb hard drive laying around but I need the OS in the budget, should I spend more money on the graphics card or get a ssd? Does it really add performance gain you can see from the naked eye?

More money on graphics now, SSD next time you have spare cash would be my opinion.

However, if you look at the Tom's article on builds for certain dollar limits, they get an ssd in there for around that budget.
I would give those a close look and see if you can make it work.
SSD's don't add framerate in mid game, but do cut load times etc way way down.
And make the system much "snappier" in general.

If you stay with a 120-128 GB ssd, you can most likely get one in for that budget.
However that only gives you room for the OS and several decent size games on it.

The advantage of the ssd over graphics would be faster boot up of windows, faster launching of programs and faster loading of games.
The advantage of spending the money on graphics instead would be better detail and higher resolution in games despite being noticeably slower to load.
If you dont mind waiting an extra 5-10 seconds more for your games to load, go for the better graphics card.
Although at a $1000 budget, i'd be hard pressed to choose between an ssd and a marginally better gfx card. If its only the difference between a gtx 760 and a gtx 760 OC, id go with the ssd. But if it was between a gtx 760 and a gtx 770, id go with the gtx 770.
Hope this helps
