Replacing the HDD with SATA 3

My old HDD died a few days ago so I replaced it with my external for now but I have to buy a new one. My old HDD was; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

It says SATA 3 Gb/s so I assume that's SATA 2 (please correct me if I'm wrong), but the one I'm planning to buy is SATA 3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

So I'm not sure how big of a bottleneck will it be, putting a SATA3 on SATA2 , will it negatively affect game performance and will the new HDD's transfer speed suffer too much cause it's connected to SATA2?

EDIT: Sorry for the double post

More about : replacing hdd sata

since this is mechanical, i dont think you will notice anything, if we are talking about using a sata3 ssd into a sata2 port then that is a different story.
mechanical drives are slow, they dont even come close to saturating sata2. so don't worry about it, that is what i know at least. please note that i use both ssd and mechanical drives

Thanks for the reply. So I'm guessing it will hardly even reach the full SATA2 speed if I understood it correctly.

yes, that is as far as i know. you can try, there are some HDD benchmark tool out there. you can see that the trasfer rate or read speed is not that good. if you want, get the hdd, then save up for ssd (put your os and some favorite games here), that's what i did :)
