I have some mushkin 2133 DDR3 in this lga 2011 Mobo ECS X79R-AX and I can't take service pack one or I get blue screen and I can't overclock the bus from 100 to 125 or in a few hours to a day or so more blue screen the reset cmos and what a hassel. Is my memory too fast for this board? I am using the quad core 3820 lga 2011 CPU. I only have one video card XFX 6770 and another I will get later, I can't find much info and how to set this type of computer up. Do I have a mobo prob or is the person trying run this machine the problem ie me.

First off this is a NO. do not overclock with the bus speed, all 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen intel cpus do not respond well to bus speed overclocking. If you want to overclock then go buy a K series cpu.

As for your question yes the motherboard supports the ram, it will go up 2500mhzOC. Not knowing ecs's bios there shold be somewhere in there to set the ram to that speed.

Then I said(RichardEckert):
OK, don't fool with the BUS speed then that leaves the cpu speed. I have found if I try to set the multiplier that this CPU is not meant to have the multiplier set either because when I do ad disable speedstep, the cpu runs for about a minute or two with an increase, such 3500. MHZ then goes back down to default which is 1/3 of its rated 3.6 at 1197 mhz with a multiplier of x12, but it jumps way up to 3.6 on default. I guess that it is OK, I don't have any video editing or anything like that. I was just wondering how this stup can work. With m old P6X58D there were recommended setting posted online hat were very releyable but not so with this, I have to say I am an beginner.

I am getting the idea that the bus speed adjust by itself up to about 101.75 when I disable the turbo boost and then I lowered the multipier from 36 down to 31 as to give this a chance with a lower speed, thinking I may be topped out. The memory went from 798 mhz to 814mhz and times two on each number is 1596 then 1628. QPI went from 3193mhz to 3256mhz. Core speed went from 1197 up to 1221. I was hoping someone might know something even if it is, "that is what those 3820 i7s just do".

reset you bios back to stock settings. then go back into the bios and look for a dram speed setting. you should be able to pick your speed from there.

the bus speed adjusting by itself is intel's turbo boost that gets you from the 3.6ghz stock to 3.8ghz.

I restored defaults and then found memory overclock and choose manual and there were increments that began at 16 , then 18.66, then another after that. Nothing, no change in anything and when I shut down to change from 18.66 to the next setting, it had reverted back to 16. The highest the memory will read is 814.2 and the CPU is fluxuating between 1.2 ghz to an occasional jump way up to 3.6 or anything in between., multiplier is x12 and that is it. This CPU is a C2 stepper and that might be a problem. It is not rated for it. It is supposed to have a M stepping one. Well, I put this on completely stock defaults which gives me a CPU that 1.2 GHz with a x12 multiplier so I don't break anything. This computer has a good "feel" to it and it raises its core speed and multiplier when it feels like, but I thought these things would do what is called "stablelize". no way.Temps are in the 24 (last number) 30 one the first number.
