CPU Intel 2600k
Ram DDR3 4 - GSkill Ripjaws F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM
Cooler Noctua NH D-14
MB Asus Maximus IV Extreme
Video 2 XFX R7770 cards
Case Coolermaster
PSU Coolermaster 1000watt Gold
About 6 weeks ago I was blowing out my Computer to clean. Removed video cards to clean them also.
After I reinstalled the cards and booted I got nothing. Cool fans turned for a second then shut off. No Debug lights present, no speaker beep, start button and reset button lit up, and yellowish motherboard light is on. I had even tested board with another power supply i had.

I Bench tested as directed by technician. Motherboard with no case, 1 stick ram, speaker plugged in, cooler fan, processor installed. Powered up board. Again No Debug lights present, no speaker beep, start button and reset button lit up, and yellowish motherboard light is on. Tried other psu too. I was given an rma # and returned motherboard to ASUS.

I received motherboard and bench tested as before. Same problem as before No Debug lights present, no speaker beep, start button and reset button lit up, and yellowish motherboard light is on. I again was directed by technician to bench. No powerup again. I rma'd board again and received second replacement.

This time before i removed the board from packaging i tested both power supplies and both showed they worked. Also note that when i tested the PSUs the -5 rail was not lit up on the tester to which I found this is normal on the current 24 pin connectors.

I then benched the newest motherboard even using a brand new PSU straight from the box that I borrowed. Still nothing, No Debug lights present, no speaker beep, start button and reset button lit up, and yellowish motherboard light is on.

This is leading me to believe that the CPU is bad. I do have another computer that is basically identical to this computer except for different PSUs, but I'm not willing to remove my cooler (tear my unit apart) and processor to test the other one.

What about the ram. I only benched with one stick on A2 Dimm Slot as per manual instruction. I was somewhat confused when I read that 1 stick should be on A2 slot and not on A1. No idea why.

Stuck in Seattle
Thanks for help Irv

Solution
Do you get memory beeps with no ram installed? Even without ram you should get some sign of life. If not that pretty much leaves the PSU, CPU or mobo and you have already eliminated 2 of the 3 possibilities.

Removed ram chip and tried to power up but same problem. I suppose I have eliminated all the possibilities except the CPU. I do have another somewhat identical system to this including same mb & CPU but, I am unwilling to tear my running unit down just to test the chip. So, I guess I'll RMA the processor. I just don't understand why the CPU would crash right after I was done blowing the computer out of dust.
Any ideas?
