I have a lens which I lent to my friend. when I was takin git out of my camera (Canon 350D), I think I might have exposed the bottom side to the sun for a slip second. When my friend tries the lens after an hour or two her camera (Canon Rebel), once she clicks, an error arrears. Error 99. I don't know if the lens is broken or her camera.

More about : lens broken

Err 99: A system malfunction has been detected

Some possible fixes for Error 99:

However, do not use a pencil eraser, use something much gentler so as not to wear off any portion of the contacts.

Thank you for the advice. I'll surely give it a try. I hope it works. Although, I have another question... Would the split second sun/light exposure of the underside of the lens during transfer compromise the lens? Because I accidentally tilted it during transfer.

I'm guessing the lens should be fine. Can't think of a reason why brief exposure to light would compromise the lens.
