Hi, I have an old KWorld PC-160-2T PCI tuner card running under Win7 Pro 64-bit, using Windows Media Centre for my TV viewing/recording.

Since the large batch of Windows updates at the end of last week the card is no longer available in WMC, I get the message

"Viewing or listening conflict
No tuner available to satisfy the current request"

The tuner is fine, it works okay in Media Portal, it is purely a software issue. But I want to use WMC as it does everything I want and at the moment I don't have the time or inclinication to figure out how to properly configure Media Portal.

I tried to do a system restore to jump back a few days but that made windows unbootable and I had to use the recovery options on the win 7 disk to get windows to work again, and ended up back where I had been after the updates.

I guess I could try to remove the updates one by one - any other ideas? Anyone come across similar?

Fixed, tuner now works fine in WMC.

It may be of interest to someone else who experiences a similar problem that setting the Windows Media Centre Receiver service to run as a Local System Account service solved the problem.

Instructions below

a. Click Start , and type Administrative tools in the Search box.

Click Administrative tools in the search results.

b. Double-click Services .

c. Scroll down the Services list and find Windows Media Center Receiver Service .

d. Right-click Windows Media Center Receiver Service , and then click Properties .

e. Click the Log On tab, and then select Local System account .

f. Click Apply, and then click OK on the Services message.

g. Restart the computer.

Just tried doing as you did to fix my TinyTwin tuner that stopped working after 8.1 upgrade from 8, but unfortunately it still didn't fix the problem. I'm assuming it is a problem with the driver compatibility as the device manager stated that it is working properly but in WMC it states that the tuner is not connected. Any suggestions?

I'm no expert on this, I just trawled the net and found the following:

Don't know if that will help at all.

Sometimes windows updates are a pain....

Good luck.
