Hi,

We have an Acer Z series desktop pc running on Windows 7 located upstairs. The router is a BTHome Hub 2.0 (V2.0 Type B) and is situated in the hall downstairs. At the moment we have 3 desktop computers upstairs 2 of which are running perfectly (along with a couple of xboxes and PS3's..lucky kids!).

The Acer was fine until 3 weeks ago, it will not connect to the router from upstairs. If I haul it downstairs it connects immediately with no problem. I have tried trouble shooting etc, even backed it up and restored the PC back to factory settings..still it will not connect from upstairs. It will list the router along with BTOpen Zone etc but will not connect.

I've been on this problem for 3 solid days now and have looked up most web discussions etc (I might add I'm just a Mom with three teenage boys so any "simplified" advice would be a godsend).

Many thanks

Susan

It sounds like it may be a range issue. what is the signal strength like? How many bars?

Try moving either the pc as close to the router as you can or the router to the central location of where all three of your pc's are situated. You may need longer ethernet cables to achieve this.

Hi,

Thanks for post. I think it is a range issue. I tried moving the router nearer to the computer but the leads only go so far. So I have invested in a TP-Link TL-WN722N 150Mbps to boost the PC signal. Hopefully, it will be £10 well spent...and my brain will be able to revert back to less strenuous issues like ironing!

Many thanks for your help.
