I have a problem with my network. In order to get the internet and POS systems working I have to select obtain IP address automatically, but I need to assign static IPs. When I do the internet goes off but the POS still work. How do I assign static IPs without that happening? What am I missing?

Solution
Not sure as you have not provided any information on your equipment, but perhaps your router supports address reservation, which provides the functionality of a static address within a dynamic range.

Also, you can use both static and dynamic addressin by reserving a block of addresses for static that are in the network range but outside of the DHCP assignable range.
