Solution
You currently have an incompatible motherboard/processor combination. Z87 is for new Haswell processors, whose model numbers begin with 4 (e.g. i5 4670k, 4770k). Either change to a compatible processor, or to a compatible motherboard such as a Z77 board. This setup is fine otherwise.
