booting is very slow after logon screen the internet access in taskbar keeps on rotating for a while

If this has only been happening recently, it may be that the computer/router is taking a long time to assign an address for the network. It sounds simple, but if it is an 'always on' modem, try turning it off and then back on again. You may need to try this once or twice, and maybe turn off the computer, and turn it on before the modem.
