I have never built a computer before but I think I'm up to the task. Here is the ask for help worksheet:

When are you purchasing the parts ?
ASAP

What is your budget ?
1340 USD (this has to be after shipping and tax but before mail in rebates. This is the max that I want to charge to my credit card.)

What are your needs ?
Gaming, music production. (If a dedicated soundcard pushes the cost over my budget, then assume that I just said gaming. Gaming is my main priority.)

Your location :
Stevens Point, WI

Your preferred sellers/websites :
Newegg, but anywhere else is fine as long as they are reliable.

Your part choices :
I don't care, as long as the parts are reliable.

Are you upgrading or taking parts from any older PC/laptop ?
No

Why are you upgrading ?
My current pc is a $300 laptop with very little potential for gaming.

Your current PC specs :
Like I said, cheap laptop.

Do you plan to upgrade this PC ?
I plan on continuing to upgrade this pc over time. Ideally the only thing that will be the same is the case in 5 or so years.

Do you need a OS or any other software ?
Yes. I'm planning on getting either windows 7 home premium or professional.

Do you need any Monitor ?
Nope, already bought a 23" 1080p monitor.

Do you need any peripheral ?
I do need a keyboard and mouse, but my budget is pretty tight so I think I might just buy the cheapest ones I can find and use those for a while. My budget is going to the PC first, and if there is leftover I will consider looking at gaming keyboards and mice.

Any other notes :
I kind of want 16 gigs of ram so I can make a huge ramdisk and have plenty leftover, but if this is really unnecessary I will just go with 8. An SSD might alleviate my need for making ramdisks but I've been hesitant to look at those because of my budget.

Any help would be much appreciated!
