I have been an Intel user for years but was able to get a nice little AMD setup for my wife cheap. I booted the system went into the Bios and watched the CPU temp climb to 69.5c. This is in the bios so no load. I have checked everything all I can think is the aftermarket cooler I purchased is crap.

Here are my specs:

AMD A10 5800K
ZALMAN CNPS2X - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118142
Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced - Mini-ITX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119276
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233366
ASRock FM2A85X-ITX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157357
LOGISYS PS575XBK 575W Power Supply - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817170017

If this temp in normal than fine but my Intel i5-2500k overclocked is running at 55c at full load. Temp seems a little high.

Solution
Shut down from heat? My issue turned out to be the motherboard having a short that caused the overheating. If you have a different MB try that. Although I had great success with MSI, the ASRock was the one to overheat.

I got an MSI at Fry's and returned the ASRock to newegg.
That's kinda high for bios. Have you monitored in real time using hardware monitor?

Also - your psu may be causing issues also - the cheap psu's have poor voltage regulation and the spikes and lack of filtering can also drive up temps.

Are you sure you got the cooler installed correctly and snugly?

I am assuming the bios is running the CPU in ideal yes? It does on Intel boards.

The Power supply was free. It way more power than i need and I have been in the Bios monitor it as well. I am staying at 12.05 volts / 3.32 volts / and 4.95 volts. No jumping of voltages at all which surprised me.

This Cooler is very small but all copper. It uses Philips screws you titan till it will not titan any more. Very snug. The case is using a 120MM fan to pull air in as well as an 80mm on the side to also pull air in. The case is vented on all sides.

I have not even installed Windows yet to do any real time monitoring. I was waiting to see if this temp is a serious issue first.

I tried last night and half way through it shut down. The case is a decent size but I still only have room for a cooler that is no larger than 90mm (L) x 90mm (w) x 70mm (H).

I am looking at returning the Zalman - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118142

and getting the XIGMATEK CAC-D9HH3-U01 90mm. - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233107

Any better options please let me know ASAP.

I always assumed that it was in full throttle mode in the BIOS. I always get higher temps in the BIOS than I do in Win7. [AMD user]

Thank you for all your help. I was able to speak with Zalman directly and resolved the issue. For those in the future with this issue, this is what I discovered.

This cooler is ok, little high in cost but it does work.

1) The instructions that come with the cooler are bad don't use them. Pull the PDF instructions from the website those are correct. Also the disclaimer that states you need a 120mm fan for this cooler is incorrect and Zalman is fixing it on there webpage.

2) The Bios for the AsRock FM2A85X-ITX is off and you need to turn the protections off during OS install or it turned your system off.

3) Under windows I am getting 32-38c IDEAL. Full load gets me 51c which is a little high but do-able.

Last if you are building an ITX machine look at this cooler instead. It is cheaper and better in every way. XIGMATEK CAC-D9HH3-U01 90mm
