Sounds like a faulty power supply, I wouldnt risk it. A faulty PSU best case stops working, worst case it blows and damages components or motherboard. Just replace the PSU as soon as possible.

There are two 12v rails on thats PSU so V1 is one rail and V2 is another rail. But either way if one of them isn't working then there is something wrong with your PSU. I would NOT use it at ALL. If its under warranty get its RMAed. If its not I would def invest in another PSU before using that one anymore.

+12V1 is usually the ATX 24-pin motherboard connector and most of the peripheral power connectors on Cougar dual +12V rail PSUs.

+12V2 is usually just the CPU (4+4)-pin power connector and maybe one PCI Express power connector on higher power models.

Changing to a new/different motherboard won't solve the problem if the +12V1 rail on the PSU is dead.

You could have triggered a protection circuit on +12V1 and it required time to reset itself.

Considering i got the PC running here is what happened in detail:

I was playing Pro Evolution Soccer and during a match the PC turned off and after trying to turn it back on and changing the power cable and the socket i did some research and read that the motherboard could be faulty so i brought out an asus crosshair iii formula that i am sure is working and plugged only power and 1 case fan and started then the fan spinned for a brief sec and stopped so i figured out it's not the mobo, so i came here started this thread and while waiting i kept switching the power cable to different sockets until the fan spinned consistently while plugged to the red one so i went to the PSU manufacturer website and checked and it said 12v2 supports CPU, GPU and didn't say MOBO so i decided not to plug it on the main board and plugged it back to one of the 4 regular 12V1 sockets and it worked, plugged it back to the main board and now the PC is working fine again and has been running for about an hour now.

Is there anyway i can check if anything is wrong with it or do i have to wait till it fails again? what are the chances of it blowing up because i can't replace it before next week due to stores being closed till Sunday. And no it's not under warranty i had it for 4 years now.

Just failed again, will a 500w PSUbe enough? I have an old one.

I used a Asus PSU calculator and it said that 500w PSU would run it but just in case i will list everything here:

ASUS M5A97 R2.0
AMD 7850 2 GB 1x
AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
2x DDR3 Ram 1333mhz kingston hyperx 2gb
1x DDR3 Ram 1333mhz kingston hyperx 4gb
1x 1TB WD HDD 6 GB/s
1x D-Link network card
4x USB external devices(bluetooth dongle, wireless receiver, mouse, PS3 chargin cable)
Creative Speakers(but that has it's own power cord so i doubt it take from the power supply)

If that 500 Watt PSU has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 25 Amps or greater it should be sufficient.

Alright after 2 days of testing it seems that my PSU fails only under load, so i will stick to browsing until i change it which should be in the next few days i will also stick to the power saving profiles.

From that list what is the best budget PSU would you recommend? the cougar 700CM that i have is listed there for 700 EGP but i don't think i need 700w could get something cheaper to do the job.
