Hello fellow forum users! I'm here to ask one simple, and probably overused question- how's my computer component list looking? The last time I built a computer was back in 08, I believe, so I could really use some advice on how my gaming/video & sound editing P.C. is turning out.

Parts
-CPU: i7 4770k
-GPU: 7970 Vapor X Ghz edition (was looking at GTX 770, but I'm not sure whether the larger price tag is worth the ~10% performance increase)
-RAM: 16 Gbs of the normal Corsair Vengeance stuff
-Case: Thermaltake Chaser A41 (got it on sale for $75 earlier, couldn't resist it)
-Storage: 2x1TB WD caviar blacks + a 128GB Samsung Pro 840 SSD
-PSU: Corsair HX850
-Sound Card: Asus Xonar DG 5.1
-Motherboard: Gigabyte UD3H z87x
-Monitor: ASUS VS24AH-P
-CPU Heatsink: Phanteks PH-TC14PE

So what do you think? Oh, and if anyone asks, I'm planning on overclocking the CPU and GPU, and will add extra case fans in necessary.

Hi. Looks good. I had originally said something about the lack of a third party cooler, but missed it. Loks like it was well thought out.

It looks good.

As for the GPU, the GTX 770 really isn't that much more expensive when you consider all your other components. That is not a budget build to start with. But the good thing about the HD 7970 is that it comes with some really awesome free games.

@coastie65: OP chose Phanteks. See last component.

@coastie65:
Thanks for the input, definitely appreciated.

@ksham: I suppose what you are saying is true, but now that I think about it, do you think it would be worthwhile to just splurge a bit more cash on a GTX 780? Or perhaps the r9 290/290x? I guess I could spend a few hundred dollars more, but I really want to put myself on a budget. (It's very tempting, I must say, especially thinking about a 256 GB SSD)

Really depends how picky and hardcore you are about it. A GTX 770 is an awesome card in its own right. The R9 290X is not out yet, but the R9 280X is close to a GTX 770 performance for about $300. So that should get worthy consideration.

But don't forget the free games that the HD 7970 comes with -- Far Cry 3, Bioshock Infinite, and Crysis 3. If any of those games (or all of them) appeal to you, then the HD 7970 is a price that can't be beat. Buying those games individually will already cost you in the $100.

@ksham: I've decided on getting the R9 280x Windforce edition, it has pretty great performance. As for the free games, I already own all of them, so that's out of the equation. Thanks to you, I should be getting better performance AND $50 savings, thanks plenty.

I really want to put WOW Gold myself on a budget. (It's very tempting, I must say, especially thinking about a 256 GB SSD)
