I'm new to overclocking, it's not something I've ever tried before. I wanted to make sure I do it the right way to avoid making a mess of things.

My Build:

Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46
Ram: 8gb Patriot 1333mhz
CPU: AMD FX8120
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX650 Ti Boost
Corsair H60 Water Cooling System on the CPU.

My motherboard has UEFI BIOS which makes for a very simple interface to use, I still don't know anything about how to overclock the CPU properly/ or how fast I could feasibly overclock to.

The same goes for my GPU as well. I want to make sure I'm getting the most out of my hardware.

well to start diable all the cool and quiet and power saving features nest increase the multiplier to the desired level you want to achieve. you do only have a h60 which isnt great for over clocking but will be ok for about 4.4 ghz from there set your vcore to ~ 1.31-1.35

One other thing is your board wont be a great overclocker so dont try and go crazy on the overclocks as well.

start at the higher v core and drop in lower and lower till its not stable then raise it back up a notch or two.

I would reccommend disabling the turbo mode for you cpu as well you will have lower temps by setting everything perfectly

after that you can raise your fsb a little if you want but i wouldnt reccommend going to high on that board since it will raise vrm temps even higher

as far as your gpu use msi afterburner and raise your core clock in 25 mhz inc reases till you find it to your liking, you may have to raise the vcore in afterburner as well by going into the program settings and unlocking voltage control

youc an also monitor you temps clock usage etc in game in other tabs

gpu memory clocks dont really raise fps a whole lot but may help for your card but dont go to high

I really appreciate the fast and thorough response. That was very helpful. I made the changes you said, and pushed it up to 3.9ghz and it seems to be running just fine.

Out of curiosity:

What does CPU-NB Ratio mean, what does it affect, and should I mess with it at all?

I use Intel, but I believe this is for ensuring your RAM frequency is optimal. If your RAM is below its optimal frequency then raise this ratio. For example, if you have 1866MHz memory but it shows as 1600MHz then raise the ratio by 15% roughly.

You may have another settings somewhere to AUTOCONFIGURE this to obtain the proper RAM profile.

(Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I can confirm that there is an [AUTO] selection available for the CPU-NB Ratio.

And I've been able to push to around 4.09ghz and don't seem to be having any overheating issues, though I probably wouldn't feel comfortable going much past that. It drove my windows experience score from 7.5 to 7.9 on the Processor rating, so that was cool to see.
