Hi.
I'm about to push the button on getting a second N670, but I'm unsure of which one to get.
Hopefully you guys can help me out.

Currently I have:
MSI N670GTX-PM2D2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 670

Should I get another one of those or about $25 more, I could get:
MSI N670 PE 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 670

Is the MSI N670 PE 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 670 compatible with the one I have, if so, is it worth the extra few bucks?

Thanks!

Hey there, hmm... Yes its worth a few bucks, like their is a huge difference between the Power Edition and non Power Edition, so I recommend you to get the Power Edition, if you want something better than the power edition and cheaper go for the ASUS GTX 670, its overclocked more than the power edition, and is 20%cooler. But im not sure if you will be fine with the colours, the ASUS has Red and Black while the MSI PE has Blue and Black, and it might not look good. Now if you care more about performance go with the ASUS GTX 670 its slightly better than the MSI one and it you care about looks go with the MSI one, no problem and just overclock it abit and you can hit the ASUS level.

The non reference ones are louder, run hotter, and have less OC potential. For sli you will want the best cooling possible since an extra card = more heat. If your cards run cooler they will have a higher turbo and less throttling. The reference one will hinder your current card and cause it to run slower. You're better off spending the extra money and getting a second card with a non reference cooler. I'd get whichever non reference card is cheapest. I have the asus gtx 670 and it does run cool and quiet.

I would duplicate your current card.
1. It is $25 less.
2. In sli you will operate at the lowest common denominator of specs.
3. The reference cooler you have is actually better in a sli configuration. The top card will get hotter, and you want the generated heat to exit the case asap.
The fancy cooler will recirculate the hot air adding to the case cooling load.

Non reference coolers are better at dissipating heat. What do you think is better at exhausting heat, the little bracket at the back of the video card, or a combination of your rear, and top vents? If you have a decent case non reference coolers will work a lot better.

With a single card, you might be right, assuming a well ventilated case.

But in sli, the two cards will be very close to each other and non reference coolers might not fit, or might get restrictive airflow.

SLI:
1) Recommend the one with the BETTER COOLER
2) Set the BASE CLOCK of the better card to match the lower card (may help minimize micro-stutter by mismatched processing times)
3) Monitor the GPU temperature while running an SLI game then SWITCH card position to determine which card should be on top (the LOWER the difference in GPU temp the better).

OTHER:
*I recommend SELLING the GTX670 if possible and put your money into a better SINGLE CARD solution such as the EVGA GTX780 with ACX cooler (about $700). Raw frame rates might not be as high but it should be SMOOTHER at times.

NOISE with a single card with great cooler will also be MUCH lower.

If you get a SINGLE card you may wish to WAIT a little while. AMD has new cards coming worth considering and even if you still want NVidia the prices of their cards MAY drop a little.
