Will a AMD FX- 6300 six core processor limit a r9 280x?

I use a 1080p res on 1 27'' monitor. I'm worried my CPU(fx 6300 six core) will limit my soon to arrive gpu's(r9 280x) abilities and I will get very bad framerates on ultra settings in games like metro last light. Is this true? If it is, how expensive of a cpu do I need to buy to get rid of the bottleneck?

Solution

Avoid overclocking for now, you should be fine. OCing will get a decent increase. Don't forget to select a best solution :p

8 gigs of ram
currently a gt 630 for a gpu(INSANELY happy that's about to change btw)
760-p34(fx) mobo
a stock thermaltake cpu cooler(know nothing about it)
and a corsair cx600 power supply
a 1 tb hdd
no ssd
onboard sound card

Also, since it looks like I'm going to need to overclock, can you give me any tips on that? Never done it before in my life.

What's wrong with the mobo though? I got all the slots I need. I could probably scavenge 35 bucks and get the cooler, but I can't save enough for the mobo for a while.

Its terrible TBH, bad phases, etc. Just wait up for a bit and get the M5A99FX PRO R2 before the Hyper 212 EVO.

Ok. I'll definetly put all my savings toward the mobo and cooler, thanks for the advice, I wouldn't have known to do any of this without your help. Just two more questions. While I keep my current mobo and cpu cooler, do you think I should avoid overclocking and just wait until the upgrade comes around? And how high fps do you think I could get on decent settings on a next gen game(with current mobo and cpu cooler, while not OCing)?

To late for me Less, I bought the 280 friday when the 7970 didn't have that massive discount. No big deal though, I got the 280 for that same price and the 280 out performs the 7970(your opinion on whether or not the difference is small, I personally think it's averageish).

Take a look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAzZAR_QpXk

It's a great comparison between the two cards. Pink line is the 7970.

Have a good night, record your improvements with us (make sure you use two PCI-E power connectors when building BTW) and snap us a pic ;)
