I have a Creative Sound Blastet X-fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro sound card and Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers with Cambridge Sound Works Four Point Surround speakers for the side.

I am looking for some better speakers for music and gaming.

If I get a 5.1 system, I will be purcasing two aditional speakers to hook up to a amp for the side.

Here are the speakera that I am considering:

Logitech Z-5500
Logitech Z-906
Logitech Z- 5400
Klispich Promedia THX
Klispich Promedia Ultra
Klispich Promedia GMX D
Creative Gigaworks s700
Creative Gigaworks s750
Altec Lansing ADA-995
Cambridge SoundWorks Desktop Theater 5.1
Cambridge SoundWorks: Ensemble II sub, Ensemble front speakers, The Surround Sound rear speakers, Center Chanel Plus center.

If you could please suggest the best speaker, or if possible a list of the speakers from best to worst.

Thanks

Well I can give my opinion, but others feel free to comment.

The 5500's are old now and the 906 is a newer model. They are the same price here in Aus, the 5500 was $330 but no longer sold, the 906 is now around $320. Being a newer model, it could have better speakers / components and the control device looks much better too. The 906 has an 8 inch "punchy" subwoofer and the 5500 has a 10 inch "deep" sub. I don't think there would be much real world difference.

If I had to buy now, the 906 would be my first choice as I prefer newer tech and I know it's meant to be the replacement for the 5500.

I can't really answer your question but can give some input.

I used to have Logitech Z5500's hooked up to a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Pro and it sounded good. That combo costs around $500 here in Aus. I then researched for days on end and settled on a Yamaha RX-V373 Amp and JBL SCS200.5 speakers (5.1). HDMI from video card into Amp for sound. There is no contest, no comparison at all. Sound cards and computer speakers are really a massive step down compared to a decent speaker and amp combo which cost around $700.

Unfortunately, we only get the big Logitechs here and only the small Creative, Altec Lansing speakers. We some 2.1 Gigaworks at work and they sound great for the price.

I have considered a similar setup, but using spdif instead of HDMI, but I have about a $200 dollar budget, and a used 5.1 /7.1 system is the best that I can affored.

Ahh no worries.

In that case the Logitech Z-906 would be my recommendation. They are great as they have optical / SPDIF input. Just be weary of the fuse in the sub, had to get a $2 set from the local hardware store after a couple months (for Z5500). 5 years on and still going strong :)
