Most likely Windows 7 wont run on something that old. If you value performance, upgrade your hardware to take advantage of the software. Like upgrade everything.

Windows 7 isn't hungry however there are pretty specific standards when running on Windows 7, I had to really fight with my old Dell Dimension to get it to run Windows 7 since it was meant for Windows XP, however Vista is the operating system that you want to stay away from when it comes to this old of a system....Windows 7 (if it will run) would be the better solution. Windows Vista is the heavy hitter system meaning if you don't have a strong system it probably will not keep up with Vista. I have actually toyed around with the idea of putting Vista in place of 7 just because of the flexibility and security Vista offers over 7. Please also remember to pick your best solution so that others may learn from your thread.
