SO I am sitting here with a new Samsung 840 EVO (not connected yet, only out of the box) I am running windows 7 64 bit. I have two old HDDs 500 gigs each. one is C drive and the other is D. I don't really care for any of the information on either except for my windows license. I really do not want to purchase another one just to have all three of my drives completely clean. so my question is what is the best way to go about accomplishing a clean wipe of C and D and moving the OS on to the new SSD. also I don't have the special sata to usb connector.

Solution
You have nothing to worry about Windows License. You can re-install the same copy. Re-installing won't going to suck your license, unless you give the copy someone else.

Best is: clean wipe C: and D:.

Use SSD for your Windows install.

Then you will gain the maximum performance.

Solution
1. Save work to external hdd or pen drive.
2. disconnect HDD's
3. In bios enable AHCI or better still RAID
4. Connect SSD to primary port, 6Gb if you have them.
5. Install Windows
6. Shutdown
7. Connect HDD'smake sure they both use 6Gb port or 3Gb port, don't mix and match.
8. When posting or via bios, set the HDD's to RAID-0 performance to make a 1GB drive or RAID-1 safety to make 500GB mirrored pair.
9. Boot Windows
10. Partition HDD's as you see fit.
11. Continue to setup Windows
12 Use SSD for core files, HDD's for games and for Steam library folder.

So I just saw your post and I wish I read it earlier. I did the steps wrong. I had my ssd and HDD connected all at the same time. my ssd now has fresh copy of windows and both drives are wiped, however I can't access one of the drives only d is there. its registers the other one but I can't use it. any ideas where to go from here? I just loaded the mb drivers from the mb disk. I haven't updated anything else yet.
