Hi all

a friend of mine is having major malware problems and wants to format his seagate barracuda to make sure the problems are gone for good. he asked me to make a copy of the drive and put it on a new WD passport that he gave me and then format it.

i hooked up both drives to my pc and the WD passport is detected as it should be in windows 7 but the seagate drive is not. it is a 250gb drive and my system is reading it as having a capacity of 78gb with 21gb free.

this makes no sense to me as it is but what is even more confusing is that when i manualy select all of the files and folders on the drive and copy them to folder on the passport i end up with a folder that has a total of 8.5 gigs.

does anyone know of a cheap (or free) app that i can use to make an exact copy of the old drive to put on the new portable?

I've no idea what's causing the anomalies with drive capacity and the amount of data on it, but to make an exact copy of the drive you need "drive cloning" software. Free ones here: http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2008/09/05/5-free-apps-to-clone-your-hard-drive/
