Removing license key (without adding new key)?

Hi all,

I should prepare a school course about malware and plan to distribute windows XP VMs with prepared samples etc. Unfortunately, all the VMs I'm using have a volume license of where I work (not the school, so I should not leave those licenses on the systems), and re-installing the OS is really quite some work. So I'm looking for a way to remove this volume license permanently without adding a new license key in the same step. The idea is that the students themselves then add the key (or use it unregistered for 30 days if that's possible). The keys themselves are not the the problem, they can get those from a server. But it is not feasible for me to prepare individual copies of the VMs each with its own key.

I tried to remove the OOBETimer registry entry, but XP comes back with the old key after reboot unless I enter a new key beforehand using msoobe. So this doesn't seem to work. My question hence is a way for a permanent de-licensing, not only until reboot?

Thanks in advance, Andy
