ESD strap vs Bare-foot

First off, sorry about the uncanny title! Now, to my question.

As we all know, an ESD/Anti-static wrist strap is worn during building of a custom PC. The concept of this being: Neutralizing static charge in your body with respect to the components, using the PC chassis as ground.

Well, my question is, will making bare-foot contact with the floor, which is zero potential, drain all static charges and provide the same effect?

Thanks in advance!

I think people dont quite undestand how it all works.

There is only two rules to follow (and you can ware shoes whilst following them)

1: Do it on a wooden floor and wooden table because these wont conduct and you wont build up much charge

2: To get rid of the static charge make sure to touch a metal part of your case this will put you on the same electrical level.

Barefoot contact with the floor wont discharge static energy it will just reduce the build up.

Ok so now I understand, basically the point is not nullify the charge but the potential difference. So, when the potential is same there won't be any shorting current flowing through. But even if you are in the same potential as the chassis, won't there be a charge flow to another component the first time you touch it? For instance, your wrist strap is on, and say, you are lifting a motherboard off the table for the first time? I'm just curious to know.

Sorry but you have lost me at that point. I built my own system using the methods i said earlier and everything has worked out fine. I was cautious about it first but after being told several times that a esd strap wasnt needed a went ahead with my build.
